Q: Does Spamlook work with Outlook Express? |
A: No, Spamlook 2003 currently works with Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003
only. A version for Outlook Express is currently under development.
Customers who purchase the current version will be entitled to a free upgrade
when the Outlook Express version will be released. |
Q: Does Spamlook 2003 work under Windows XP? |
A: Yes, the XP platform is fully supported. |
Q: How does Spamlook keep itself updated? |
A: Spamlook updates itself automatically, through the Internet.
Frequent updates are not necessary because SpamSensor(TM), the
“brain” of Spamlook 2003, is able to recognize new kinds of spam, regardless
of the source that is producing it. |
Q: Does Spamlook work with Microsoft Exchange server? |
A: No, currently Spamlook 2003 supports the POP3 protocol only.
To use Spamlook with Exchange Server you’ll need Spamlook Server, which
is currently under development. |
Q: How does Spamlook recognizes spam messages? |
A: This is the main advantage of Spamlook 2003. Most antispam
software recognizes spam email checking the message against a list of known
signatures, trying to keep the list constantly updated. Spamlook analyses
the entire set of headers, processing information through a NLP/Bayesian
algorithm, and focuses on the body of the message. It’s a dynamic approach, and
this is why it’s difficult to fool it. |
Q: Does Spamlook work with other clients, besides MS Outlook? |
A: No, Spamlook 2003 has been designed specifically for MS Outlook. |
Q: Do you have any plan to support other email platforms? |
A: Yes, Spamlook for Outlook Express and Spamlook for Exchange
Server are currently under development. We don’t have plans at the moment to
support Eudora, AOL and other popular mailers but we may do so in the near
future. |
Q: How can I be sure that legitimate emails, even if with
promotional and "spam like" content, will not be flagged as spam? |
A: That’s simple. Just add the sender to the Trusted Addresses List.
You can do this in two ways. Either highlighting the message and clicking on
this icon: . Or entering in Spamlook
/ Option /Trusted Addresses. Here you can add, edit and remove any address
in the list. |
Q: Can I receive spam selectively? |
A: Yes, Spamlook is able to recognize a particular category of
spam, extract it from the bulk and trash the rest. To do this, go into
Spamlook Option, click on “Content Selection” and select the topics or
categories you are interested in. |
Q: Do I need any Outlook Service Pack installed? |
A: If you have the first release of Outlook 2002 we do recommend
that you install the Office XP
Service Pack 1, which contains major fixes for Outlook 2002.
Without this service pack Outlook 2002 is rather unstable and this may affect
the normal functionality of Spamlook 2003.
Q: Does Spamlook work with pst files? |
A: Yes, pst files are supported. |
Q: Can I add some filtering rules manually? |
A: No, the ability to manually filter spam messages it’s not available
within Spamlook 2003. This functionality already exists in Microsoft Outlook: it’s
called “Junk Filters” and it’s accessible through the Rule Wizard (Tools -> Rule
Wizard).
However, we believe that setting up rules, and keeping them updated, is quite a
job itself, just another way spammers waste your time. Spamlook takes care
of this automatically, but if you really need to add some custom filters the
Outlook Rule Wizard will help you to achieve that. |
Q: Does it work immediately or do I need to configure it first? |
A: It works immediately; there is no need to configure
anything. The only thing that you may want to do is to enter the address
of the mailing lists you are subscribed to (if any) into Trusted Addresses,
to make sure they’re not taken as spam. But that’s all. Anything that you
have in your Outlook address book and Contacts is implicitly trusted. |
Q: Will I still need it if I upgrade to Outlook 2003? |
A: It depends. If you receive few spam emails, and are fully
satisfied with the native Outlook 2003 junk filter, you won’t need anything
else. If you feel that this protection mechanism doesn’t provide you the level
of filtering you need, Spamlook 2003 will help you to obtain a
comprehensive protection
from spam. |
Q: Will it slow down the download? |
A: No, it won’t. Your download will proceed as usual, with the usual
speed. Spam emails that normally land into your Inbox will be promptly recognized,
picked up and moved to a separate folder (or directly to the Deleted Items,
if required). All this doesn’t affect the speed of the download process, which
depends mainly on your Internet connectivity. |
Q: Is Spamlook compatible with Windows Vista? |
A: We are not planning to support Vista nor the latest Outlook
versions for the time being. In our experience both present significant
issues in terms of security, stability and compatibility with previous
software libraries. |
